The Curated Guide

What I Reach For on Migraine or Tension Days

A Gentle Note

On migraine or tension days, I’ve learned to listen closely to what my body is asking for and to keep things simple and quiet. These are a few gentle comforts I reach for when I need relief without stimulation or pressure.

Cooling & Soothing

  • Cooling fever patches (I use the child-sized ones. They fit better and feel gentler.)

Gentle Pressure & Support

  • RENPHO eye massager with heat (a gift from my husband. I appreciate that the pressure and warmth are optional, so I can choose what feels tolerable on different days.)

Calming Scents

  • Peppermint oil roll-ons.  I keep one nearby for temples and neck, and prefer blends that are already diluted for skin use, like the MigreLief Comfort Stick.

Quiet Comforts I Keep Nearby

  • Hatch Restore sunrise alarm clock and sound machine (a gift from my daughter. It plays steady, soothing sounds that help create calm while I’m trying to get through a migraine.)
  • Staying well-hydrated throughout the day (mostly water, with an occasional Liquid I.V. hydration mix when I feel especially depleted.)

A Reminder to Rest

On days like these, I remind myself that rest isn’t giving up. It is part of listening to my body. Even small moments of quiet can matter.

Sometimes that rest looks like a warm bath with a calming scent and a supportive bath pillow. Something simple that helps my body settle without asking anything of me.

Other days a hot shower helps. I let the water run over my neck and shoulders to ease tension.

I hope one or more of these small comforts brings a bit of relief on the days you need it most.
